GD0911 Digital Publishing Suite Projects

This semester, I introduced a new course to my Graphic Design for Print & Web program at Humber College called “Digital Publishing for Tablet Devices”. Students were taught how to design and analyze traditional editorial magazines while thinking of creative ways to make the publication more engaging to the reader. Each student chose their own magazine and article to publish, as well as choosing and designing an advertisement to place within the magazine.

Students learned how to organize page and article navigation for both horizontal and vertical layouts on the iPad, organize and create folio’s, create object states, animations and many other interactive elements via the Overlay Creator. Some interactive elements learned were: audio/video, in-app and external web content, image sequences, scrollable content and many more.

Take a look at just a few of the many great projects that my students did this year.

Great work guys! 🙂

GD0911 Package Design Projects

This year’s Graphic Design for Print & Web students were asked to design, redesign, or create a new product line for a company of their choice. Student’s researched their chosen brand, in addition to, product competition, retail audit and marketing analysis to develop a comprehensive package design brief. The students also created their own templates, die lines, production art, 3D mock-ups and prototypes; along with advertisements to promote their new product line and package design.

Take a look at some of the concepts and designs from this semester’s Graphic Design for Print & Web students… I will be posting more images soon.

Raster or Vector 4 – GD0911 Technical Drawings

Every year I’m amazed at the projects my Graphic students produce but the one project that really tests their skills, time management and efficiency is the Illustator level 2 technical drawing assignment. I’m always proud of my students for working hard and putting forth the time and effort with these projects. More importantly, hearing their positive feedback regarding the project and how it improved their skills makes me realize the importance of this challenging but satisfying assignment.

As always, The Graphic Design for Print and Web students created some amazing realistic vector drawings using Adobe Illustrator. They were expected to use proper layer structure to organize a complex drawing while choosing the most suitable of Illustrator’s many tools and features for creating realistic shading, contours, and surface textures. The students also experiment with filters, effects and the mesh tool in Adobe Illustrator to achieve realism.

Here are some of the most recent projects from my GD0911 students this semester. See if you can tell the difference between the original vs. the vector illustration… There’s no photographs here 😉
